Question:

314 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Education if it is the intention of her Department to submit a tender for the purchase of St. Columba's Hospital, Sligo, for use by Sligo regional technical college which urgently requires accommodation and which adjoins the property; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 313 and 314 together.

My Department have received no formal proposal from the town of Sligo VEC or the regional technical college for the purchase of St. Columba's Hospital. I am aware, however, that the vocational education committee and the college authorities are currently examining the suitability of the hospital for educational purposes.

It would not be appropriate for me to take any action in the matter until I have received a proposal from the VEC.
