Vol. 407 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rathcoffey (Kildare) School.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

330 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the extent of facilities to be provided at Rathcoffey national school, County Kildare; if she has received representations from the school authorities requesting progress on the project; if she will outline the reasons, if any, for the ongoing delays in bringing the project to a final and satisfactory conclusion; if financial provision has been made in the current year or within the confines of the Programme for Social and Economic Progress to carry out the necessary work; if it is intended to implement urgently requested drainage proposals on the site in the interim; when she expects actual work on the entire project to commence; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the situation in relation to Rathcoffey national school, County Kildare, and I have approved a permanent extension to the school.

I am aware of the concern of the school authorities that the project be proceeded with at the earliest possible date. It is my intention that this project be proceeded with when all the planning, tendering and contractual stages have been completed and I have arranged that any delay in this process be kept to a minimum.

My Department have not received any application from the school authorities in relation to site drainage and if they do this will be considered independently of the main project.

The proposals under theProgramme for Economic and Social Progress for the upgrading of unsatisfactory accommodation comes into effect from 1992, to be completed by 1997.
