Vol. 407 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ministerial Foreign Visits.

Bernard Allen

Question:

84 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will give a list of his visits abroad since 1 February, 1991; the countries visited; and the duration and purpose of each visit.

Since 1 February, I have visited in an official capacity the following countries: Cyprus, Egypt, the Federal Republic of Germany, India, the United States of America, Nicaragua and Mexico.

A one-day visit was made to Cyprus at the invitation of the Cypriot authorities en route to Egypt for an official four day visit. Other official visits since 1 February were made to India and to Mexico, for six days and four days respectively. Working visits were made to Germany and the United States, for four days and three days respectively.

I also travelled to Belgium and Luxembourg to attend meetings arising in the EC framework: an informal meeting of the European Council, two General Affairs Councils, a Ministerial EPC meeting and an informal Ministerial meeting. All of these were one day meetings.

My visit to Nicaragua also arose from our membership of the EC, being the occasion of the seventh San Jose Ministerial Conference between the member states of the European Community and the countries of Central America, at which we discussed the progress towards peace, democracy and reconciliation being made by the countries of Central America. This meeting was of two days duration.
