Vol. 407 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sick Pay Claim.

Tony Gregory

Question:

223 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Defence the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 did not receive any sick pay while out of work due to illness for the period November 1990 to January 1991.

The person referred to by the Deputy had a bad sick absence record over the past number of years. In October 1989 he was advised in accordance with standard procedures that if his attendance pattern did not improve the benefits of the sick pay scheme would be withdrawn from him. A review of his case in March 1990 indicated that there was no improvement and accordingly the benefits of the sick pay scheme were withdrawn from him. He was therefore not entitled to pay in respect of periods of absence from that date including the period referred to by the Deputy.

Arrangements are already in hand, on the recommendation of the chief medical officer, to have the person concerned medically examined by a specialist following which his position will be further reviewed.
