Vol. 407 No. 4

Written Answers. - Civilian Clerical Staff.

Paul McGrath

Question:

81 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice the number of clerical assistants employed in Garda stations nationwide; the number of vacancies which exist for this grade at present; and if he is satisfied that the maximum number of gardaí are doing the work they were trained for rather than work which could be handled by civilians.

There are 479 civilian clerical staff employed in Garda offices at present and vacanies for a further 72 civilians will be filled this year. The question of further scope for civilianisation in the Garda Síochána is being kept under continuing examination by my Department and the Garda authorities.
