Vol. 407 No. 9

Written Answers. - Housing Extension Grants.

Jim Higgins

Question:

39 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for the Environment if he is prepared, in cases of over-crowding in houses, to provide a grant to enable a suitable extension to be provided in order to alleviate the overcrowding; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Details of the scheme, announced in A Plan for Social Housing, for the improvement of private houses in lieu of providing local authority housing, have issued to housing authorities. The scheme allows, inter alia, for the extension of private houses to relieve over-crowding where the applicant qualifies for local authority housing.

I have no proposals for the general reintroduction of a grants scheme for the building of extensions to private houss.
