Vol. 407 No. 9

Written Answers. - Dedicated Truckway Proposal.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

46 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received a copy of the proposal made by the Students Against the Destruction of Dublin for a dedicated truckway on one of the existing railway lines running out of Dublin port. as an alternative to the proposed eastern bypass; if, in view of the huge sums of public money, which would be spent on the eastern bypass, he will consider the proposals for the truckway, which is likely to be considerably cheaper; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that, arising from the public display of proposed amendments to the 1987 Dublin city draft development plan, this group made a submission to Dublin Corporation about the proposed port access and eastern relief route. Consideration of the submission in the context of the adoption of the Dublin City development plan is a matter for Dublin Corporation.

I am also aware that the local authority have made a copy of the submission available to the consultants appointed to carry out the feasibility and environmental impact studies for the proposed road and have asked the consultants to evaluate the truckway options suggested. It will be a matter for the local authority to consider the consultants' report in due course.
