Vol. 407 No. 9

Written Answers. - Noise Pollution.

Bernard Allen

Question:

49 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment if he has any plans to introduce legislation to reduce the levels of noise pollution in urban areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Environmental Protection Agency Bill, 1990 will provide comprehensive noise control powers, replacing the present controls on neighbourhood noise provided under section 51 of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, as amended. The Bill provides for wide ranging regulations for control of noise, powers to require noise abatement or prevention measures to be taken, and procedures in the event of nuisance caused by noise.
