Question:63 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment the total amount of expenditure by all local authorities in 1977 and in 1990 expressed in 1990 prices.
Written Answers. - Local Authorities' Expenditure.
Total local authority expenditure in 1990 is estimated at £1,262 million. Total expenditure in 1977 was £462 million. These figures are not comparable, however, due to the changes in local expenditure during that period including the termination of various levies and the substitution of capital grants for loans for major services and the termination of loan charges for such services.
