Vol. 407 No. 9

Written Answers. - Cahir, County Tipperary, By-pass.

Michael Ferris

Question:

69 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received an application from Tipperary (South Riding) County Council for approval and funding to provide an additional roundabout on the new by-pass at Cahir, County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Tipperary (South Riding) County Council sought approval to provide a roundabout at the junction of the Cahir by-pass with the main Cork road at Lisava, Cahir in March 1989 and again in December 1990. The estimated cost of the proposed roundabout is £250,000. After full consideration, it was decided that the channelised junction which was originally proposed by the local authority, and which has now been constructed, is the most appropriate, having regard to the likely volumes of both through and turning traffic on all approaches to the junction. The local authority have been informed that the cost of the proposed roundabout would not be accepted as a charge against road grants.
