Written Answers. - Port Projects Funding.

Question:

81 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for the Marine if he will indicate the amount of EC and State funding/grants allocated to each of the following major ports in each of the last ten years: (1) Dublin, (2) Cork, (3) Waterford, (4) Limerick and (5) Rosslare; and the amount of grant aid which Dublin port applied for in each of the years 1989, 1990 and 1991.

The EC and State funding afforded to each of the ports mentioned, over the past ten years, is given in the table which I am circulating with the Official Report.

The Dublin Port and Docks Board submitted a five year draft development plan leading to 1993 and beyond, proposing capital expenditure on a number of projects of £32.69 million and requesting that these projects be considered for ERDF funding. Funding was not sought for particular years but in relation to individual projects whose starting dates were not specified. To date two projects, stage II of the South Bank Container terminal project and the provision of additional bulk handling facilities at Alexandra Quay, have been aided under the operational programme for peripherality in the amount of £406,000.
