Question:156 Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to appoint an additional teacher to Kilkenny national school, Glenties, County Donegal.

The staffing of national schools for a particular year is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year.
As this school had an enrolment of 31 pupils on 30 September 1990, the authorised staffing of the school for the 1991-92 school year is principal and one assistant, representing an increase in staff of one teacher.
My Department have recently written to the chairman of the board of management of the school informing him that the Department are prepared to sanction the appointment of first assistant from 1 September 1991.
