Vol. 408 No. 1

Written Answers. - Licensing of Dentists.

Ivan Yates

Question:

30 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Health whether he has received reports from the Irish Association of Denture Prosthesis and the Dental Council on his proposed licensing of denturists in Ireland; if he has set a target date for the introduction of licensed denturists; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Dental Council recently submitted their views on the establishment of a statutory recognised class of denturists as auxiliary dental workers under the Dentists Act, 1985. The establishment of such a recognised grade would enable them to provide false teeth directly to the public on a properly regulated legal basis. I have asked the president of the Dental Council to meet me in the near future to discuss the establishment of a scheme for denturists.
