Vol. 408 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Hospice Funding.

Michael Joe Cosgrave

Question:

40 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Minister for Health the progress which has been made on the plans to fund the St. Francis Hospice at the Capuchin Friary, Raheny Road, Dublin 5; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I allocated a grant of £100,000 from the health allocation of the national lottery proceeds to the St. Francis Hospice in December 1989.

I will be making £50,000 available from the health allocation of the national lottery proceeds to the St. Francis Hospice homecare service in 1991.

I am very aware of the work done by the hospice movement over the years to develop techniques and programmes of care which are specially tailored to the needs of the terminally ill. The development of day care and domiciliary care services is most desirable and is in line with my Department's policy of developing care services in the community where possible.
