Vol. 408 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Consultant Appointment.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

59 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Health whether, in view of the approval by Comhairle na nOspidéal of a second genito-urinary consultant, his Department have made the necessary funds available for an immediate appointment and provision of the necessary ancillary facilities having regard to the enormous strain now evident on present resources in St. James's Hospital, Dublin 8.

My Department requested the Mater Misericordiae Hospital, the Eastern Health Board and the Drug Treatment Centre, Trinity Court to formulate a joint application to Comhairle na nOspidéal, for the appointment of a genito-urinary medicine consultant for the north side of Dublin.

On 21 February 1991 the post was approved by Comhairle na nOspidéal who made provisions for the involvement of the Rotunda Hospital.

Before advertising the post, the Mater Hospital has indicated that it wishes to have discussions with my Department. As soon as agreement has been reached the post will be filled as quickly as possible.
