Vol. 408 No. 2

Written Answers - Teacher Training.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

75 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education if, in the light of a lack of in-service training provided for schools in relation to the introduction of the junior certificate and the failure of her Department to issue sample questions to the schools, she will outline her proposals to clarify this situation; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

In-service training on the junior certificate has been provided since 1989 and this provision will continue. Sample questions in the subjects in which new syllabuses were introduced in 1989 were issued to schools in February 1991 in connection with an in-service course for all teachers of the subjects in question.

Sample question papers are currently being prepared in the context of views expressed at that course and will be available in schools for the commencement of the coming school year.
