Vol. 408 No. 2

Written Answers - Dublin 1 Garda Numbers.

Tony Gregory

Question:

96 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice the number of gardaí now assigned to the Fitzgibbon Street District of Dublin 1; the number on foot patrol duties; and if he will outline this information for 1990.

The number of gardaí assigned to Fitzgibbon Street station on 30 May 1990 was 79. The current strength is 92, including two gardaí who were assigned to this station with effect from today. The Garda authorities inform me that the number of gardaí assigned to foot patrol duties is not fixed, but is varied from time to time having regard to the local Garda officers' assessment of needs, overall resources and the most appropriate mix as between foot patrol and other policing duties.
