Vol. 408 No. 2

Written Answers - Clearing of Debris.

Tony Gregory

Question:

97 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if he will instruct the contractor undertaking building work in Mountjoy Prison to cease loading lorries in residential streets at Glengarrif Parade-St. Ignatius Road, Dublin 7, or alternatively to remove mud and debris and clean this roadway afterwards as requested numerous times by the local residents association.

Major construction work has been in progress in Mountjoy Prison for some years past and is likely to continue for some time to come before the phased modernisation programme is completed. Of necessity this entails movement of plant and vehicular delivery of materials by way of the private roadway adjoining Glengarriff Parade which gives access to the rear entrance to the prison. Use of the main gate on the North Circular Road for these purposes would not be compatible with good order, safe custody or security at the prison. The contractor has undertaken to clear away any dirt caused by the operation.
