The matter of a census of Irish non-consultant hospital doctors for the purpose of medical manpower planning and determination of training needs is currently under consideration in my Department.

Question:153 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on a recent Irish Medical Organisation report that Irish consultants are failing to provide an adequate level of supervision for non-consultant hospital doctors working under them in State-funded hospitals; and the steps he proposes to take on the report.
I am aware of the report the Deputy refers to only through an article in the medical press of the 3 May concerning it. I have not seen the report itself. It was not submitted to me by the Irish Medical Organisation's NCDH sub-committee which drew it up.
