Vol. 408 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Hospital Treatment.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

167 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Health when a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8, will be operated on in the Meath Hospital, Dublin 8 in view of the fact that he is a 19 year old asthmatic who has been told that he is liable to get cancer if the operation is not performed immediately.

The person in question is on the waiting list for admission to hospital.

The Deputy will appreciate that waiting lists are a matter for the consultant concerned and priority is given to medically urgent cases.
Should the person in question be concerned about his condition, he should contact his general practitioner who will be in the best position to emphasise the urgency of his case to the consultant directly. If there was any indication of the development of cancer the general practitioner and the consultant would no doubt make immediate arrangements for the admission of the patient.
