Vol. 408 No. 4

Written Answers. - Provision of Nebuliser.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

172 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Health if he will approve the funding necessary for the provision of a nebuliser to a medical card holder (details supplied) in the South-Eastern Health Board area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The question of the provision of a nebuliser to a medical card holder is the responsibility of the chief executive officer of the appropriate health board.

If a doctor is of the opinion that a patient would benefit from a home nebuliser he/she should put such a request in writing to the chief executive officer of the relevant health board giving details of the medical history and treatment of the patient.

I understand from the chief executive officer of the South-Eastern Health Board that no such request has been made on behalf of the person referred to in the Deputy's question.
