Question:73 Mr. D'Arcy asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the difference which exists between the payments per ewe on sheep in the disadvantaged areas and those payments made to people who are not keeping their sheep in such an area.
In the disadvantaged areas the full ewe premium and an additional four ECUs (about £3.50) are payable on each ewe up to a maximum of 1,000 ewes and half the premium plus two ECUs are payable on the excess over the 1,000 ewes. Flockowners in these areas also qualify for headage grants of £9.50 on the first 150 ewes and £6.50 on the next 50.
In the non-disadvantaged areas full ewe premium only — i.e. not including any additional four ECUs — is payable on each ewe up to a maximum of 500 ewes and half that premium only is payable on the excess over 500 ewes. No headage grants are payable in those areas.

The person named is not the registered owner of the herd number quoted. However, the registered owner of that herd number has already been paid his 1990 cattle headage and suckler cow premium schemes grants. He did not apply under the 1990 sheep headage scheme.
