Vol. 408 No. 5

Written Answers. - Defence Force Pensions.

Seán Ryan

Question:

42 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence if, in the light of the Gleeson recommendations, he will recommend to the Government that the pensions of retired Defence Force personnel be increased pro rata with the recent increases to serving personnel.

In accordance with normal practice in the public service, all Defence Forces superannuation benefits were increased from 1 January, 1 April and 1 October 1990 in line with the increases in regimental and line pay recommended by the Gleeson Commission from those dates.

Such benefits will fall to be further increased from 1 January 1991 when final agreement has been reached with the representative associations for military personnel regarding the implementation of the agreement on pay and conditions which forms part of theProgramme for Economic and Social Progress.
