Vol. 408 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Kildare Community College Facilities.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

62 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if, during her recent visit to Confey College, Leixlip, County Kildare she has satisfied herself that the extra facilities requested by the school authorities are now urgently required; if her visit has proven instrumental in expediting the process of the remaining stages in relation to the provision of the extra facilities and the appointment of a school secretary; if as a result the school authorities can expect an early response to their various requests; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I have recently approved the provision of accommodation for Confey Community College to cater for the expected enrolment in September 1991 and my Department will shortly be in contact with County Kildare VEC to authorise seeking of tenders.

The planning by the vocational education committee's design team of the project to provide permanent accommodation for 500 pupil places is proceeding and every effort will be made to ensure that there is no undue delay in having it completed.

My Department have recently allocated two clerical posts to County Kildare VEC. It will be a matter for the VEC to allocate this staffing resource to individual schools.

I will continue to keep the needs of Confey College under review.
