Written Answers. - Examination Concession for Dyslexic Student.

Question:

65 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the facts of a case (details supplied) in Dublin 15 where a young dyslexic student who got five honours and two passes in his intermediate certificate and who will be sitting his leaving certificate in June, she will ensure that the same concessions will be granted to this student in the leaving certificate as in the intermediate certificate and that the papers in the leaving certificate will not be specially branded indicating that he was dyslexic; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The application for special consideration in respect of the candidate referred to by the Deputy has been examined by the psychological service of my Department and I am pleased to confirm that special consideration will be accorded to the candidate at the forthcoming leaving certificate examination. I also wish to assure the Deputy that the candidate's leaving certificate will not bear any reference to the according of special consideration.
