Vol. 408 No. 7

Written Answers. - Road Tolling Expenditure.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

134 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline (a) the details of the expenditure of £2.3 million which has been certified and paid in respect of works to facilitate tolling of the Dublin Ring Road, having regard to the fact that this road is not tolled, and that Dublin County Council have decided not to toll the road and (b) to whom this money was paid.

The sum referred to relates to:

(a) the lengthening of the ramps at the Naas Road interchange with the Dublin Ring Road to provide toll booth areas together with necessary queueing areas while still maintaining the acceleration length from toll booth to entry to motorway necessary for safe merging of slip road and motorway traffic; and (b) the provision of concrete aprons with service connections and toll booth bases in the immediate toll plaza areas.
The works were undertaken by the contractors building the Galway Road to Blessington Road section of the Western Parkway as this was considered to be the most cost effective approach.
