Vol. 408 No. 7

Written Answers. - Electrician Appointment.

Tony Gregory

Question:

187 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Defence if he will investigate the complaint of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7, who is the longest serving temporary electrician, that he has been passed over for a permanent position on several occasions during that time; and if he will outline the criteria for the appointment of permanent staff.

The person in question was employed for a number of months during each of the years 1988 to 1990 and similarly in 1986 and for some years before that. Permanent appointments for electricians are filled through FÁS, the training and employment authority. Persons nominated by FÁS are interviewed for vacant positions. The person referred to by the Deputy was interviewed on two occasions for permanent electrician vacancies but was not successful in securing a permanent appointment.
