Question:90 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education if she will consider having parents and teachers represented on the boards of vocational education committees.

Members of vocational education committees are elected by the relevant local rating authority in accordance with the terms of the Vocational Education Act, 1930. Under section 8 (4) of that Act, a local authority shall have regard to the interest and experience in education of the person proposed for vocational education committee membership.
A parent and-or teacher representative may, therefore, be elected to a vocational education committee if the local authority considers it appropriate.
