Vol. 409 No. 2

Written Answers. - FÁS-CERT Training Statistics.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

23 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Labour if he will outline, in respect of the latest month for which figures are available, the total number of persons in full-time training who, but for that fact, would be on the live register of unemployment.

The total number of persons participating in FÁS and CERT conducted main line training programmes who were recorded as being recruited from the unemployment register at 30 April 1991, was approximately 4,400, the latest month for which figures are available. It is not possible to say what the employment status of these participants would be were they not in training.

FÁS and CERT provide a significant amount of training for young people who did not come from the live register because they would not qualify for unemployment compensation for a number of reasons. In addition some female trainees who intend to return to the workforce may not have appeared on the live register because of their ineligibility for unemployment compensation.
