John O'Leary

Question:

60 Mr. O'Leary asked the Minister for Energy the reason a person (details supplied) in County Kerry was paid a grant of only £20 per acre for half the land which he planted and £47 per acre for the other half in view of the fact that the plantation covers one block of land; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No application for a forestry grant or forest premium has been received, though my Department have issued a pre-planting grant approval for nine hectares.

When application for grant aid and premium is received payments will be made on the basis of the conditions of the schemes which specify different planting grants and premia for enclosed and unenclosed land.

Five hectares of the land in question was previously enclosed and improved for agricultural purposes and the remaining four hectares were unenclosed.
