Vol. 409 No. 9

Written Answers. - National Museum Staffing Levels.

Michael Joe Cosgrave

Question:

41 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Taoiseach whether, following a report to Deputy Cosgrave that certain sections of the National Museum are not on view to the general public due to low staffing levels, he will ensure that staffing levels are adequate to ensure that all exhibits are on view to the general public at all times; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Given the present level of staff, it is not possible for all the exhibition areas in the National Museum to be open to the public simultaneously. Some rooms have to be closed for some hours each day, generally during lunch hours, but all are open outside those hours. In addition, every effort is made to facilitate special requests to view areas during the hours when they are closed.

The service being provided to the public by the National Museum is regarded as being reasonable having regard to the need to maintain firm control on the public finances.
