Vol. 409 No. 9

Written Answers. - Royal Canal Fence.

Tony Gregory

Question:

56 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works have any plans to replace the protective rail-fence along the Royal Canal opposite Charleville Mall Flats as a necessary safety measure.

The general policy of the Office of Public Works is to open up access to the canals to the maximum extent and to avoid the erection of fences wherever possible.

With regard to the fence referred to by the Deputy, circumstances exist which are considered to warrant a departure from the general policy and arrangements are being made to have it repaired as soon as possible.
