Vol. 409 No. 9

Written Answers. - Registration of Dog Kennels.

Michael Noonan

Question:

92 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for the Environment if he has any plans which would require the registration of dog kennels; if his Department operate regulations with which the proprietors of such kennels have to comply; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Control of Dogs Act, 1986 (Guard Dogs) Regulations, 1988, as amended by the Control of Dogs Act, 1986 (Guard Dogs) Regulations, 1989, provide for the registration by local authorities of kennels in which more than five guard dogs aged over four months are kept and set down standards for the construction and operation of such kennels.

I have no proposals at present to extend the application of these regulations to other dog kennels.
