Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - EC Directive.

Joseph Doyle

Question:

214 Mr. Doyle asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when the Irish Government intend to implement the EC Directive No. 64/433 in relation to the preparation of fresh meat.

Directive 64/433/EEC has been implemented in Ireland by the European Communities (Fresh Meat) Regulations, 1987 and 1989.

However, in July of this year the Council of Ministers adopted Directive 91/497/EEC amending and extending Directive 64/433/EEC to make it applicable to the Single Market. Member states are required to implement the new provisions by 1 January 1993. My Department are at present involved in the process of preparing appropriate national regulations to meet the requirements of Directive 91/497/EEC.
