Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Frank Crowley

Question:

240 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a farm development grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

Every effort is made to have payments under the farm investment aid schemes made at the earliest possible date. Claims are, of course, processed strictly in order of receipt and, therefore, the period between receipt of a particular claim and its payment is affected by the overall volume of claims to be processed at the time in question and the position in regard to budgetary resources. Having regard to the level of claims currently on hands, it is likely to be about three months before this payment can be made.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

241 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of farmers still awaiting payment of their first instalment of sheep subsidies; when these payments will be made; when the next instalment will be paid; and if he will have it paid earlier because of the drastic reduction in farm incomes in 1991.

Of the 52,300 flockowners who applied for the 1991 ewe premium, 50,181 have been paid the first instalment. The remaining cases are query cases and will be paid as soon as those queries are resolved.

The second instalment of the premium will be paid as soon as possible after the exact amount has been fixed by the EC.

Edward Nealon

Question:

242 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if, in view of the very difficult conditions prevailing in farming, he will give a commitment that all headage payments will be paid out in this calendar year.

It is not possible to give the commitment suggested by the Deputy, but as many headage payments as possible will be paid in this calendar year.

Phil Hogan

Question:

243 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a grant will be paid under the farm improvement programme for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

It is hoped to have this grant paid within the next two to three weeks.

Michael Noonan

Question:

244 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if a decision has been reached on an appeal concerning the allocation of a milk quota by a person (details supplied) in County Limerick; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

While my Department have informed the legal advisers of the producer indicated that an application to appeal the quantity of quota allocated to him can be submitted to the quota appeals tribunal, no such application has been received to date.
