Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - ESB Retail Trading.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

265 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the steps he intends to take to end the unfair advantage of the ESB in selling electrical goods; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Michael Noonan

Question:

269 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been drawn to the fact that certain practices of ESB owned electrical shops are causing concern in the electrical trade; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 269 and 265 together.

This issue was raised in this House during the debate on the Competion Bill, 1991 and under the grievance procedure on 19 June 1991. I am having discussions with the Minister for Energy, who has responsibility for the ESB, with a view to the future of the ESB's trading policy at retail level being reassessed.
