Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - Energy Research Funding.

Enda Kenny

Question:

284 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Energy the amount of money set aside this year for energy research; if he will outline its comparative rate as against other EC countries; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An inventory of expenditure on research and development compiled by Eolas, the Irish Science and Technology Agency, shows that a sum of £650,000 was spent by the State energy companies and the university sector in 1990 on energy related research and development and demonstration. Precise information on expenditure this year is not to hand but it is expected that a broadly similar amount will be spent.

Comparable figures for the EC member states for 1991 have not yet been published.
