Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Louth Unemployment Statistics.

Michael Bell

Question:

304 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will outline the number of males and females on (a) unemployment benefit and (b) unemployment assistance over the past ten years in (1) the Drogheda area of County Louth and (2) the Dundalk area of County Louth.

The information requested by the Deputy is given in the following table.

The relatively higher growth in the number of women on the live register is due, in part, to the increasing participation of women in the labour force. In addition, in recent years married women generally have become eligible for the first time to claim unemployment assistance in their own right.
