Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rules of the Road Booklet.

Dermot Fitzpatrick

Question:

402 Dr. Fitzpatrick asked the Minister for the Environment whether it is possible for schools of motoring to be supplied with multiple copies of the rules of the road book for their students in view of the present situation where local motor taxation offices and the National Road Safety Council supply these books on an individual basis.

The rules of the road booklet is distributed by the National Safety Council on my behalf and the specific arrangements relating to its distribution are made by the council. As far as is practicable the council will meet any reasonable request for the supply of copies of the booklet. However, they must also have regard to the need to ensure that an adequate supply is available, particularly in motor tax offices, to meet the needs of learner drivers.

I am at present reviewing the supply and distribution arrangements applying to the rules of the road in the context of a new edition of the booklet which I hope to have available in the new year.
