Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - EC Eco-Labelling Scheme.

Phil Hogan

Question:

418 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline his views in relation to the proposed EC eco-labelling scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I refer to the replies to Questions No. 81 of 6 February 1991 and No. 51 of 11 June 1991 in which I have already made clear my support for the concept of eco-labelling.

Section 76 of the Environmental Protection Agency Bill, 1990, will require the establishment of an eco-labelling scheme in this country and also enjoins regard to any relevant EC requirements.

I look forward to the enactment of the Bill and to the adoption of the draft EC directive on eco-labelling in the near future.
