Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - Leixlip (Kildare) Water Treatment Plant Discharge.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

474 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the damage being caused to the River Liffey by sludge from Leixlip water treatment plant; if plans exist to install a modern sludge tank; and if he will initiate a programme of testing the water for damage.

I am aware of complaints in relation to the sludge discharged to the Liffey from the Leixlip water treatment plant. I understand that Dublin County Council are examining proposals for the provision of new sludge handling facilities at the plant. It is a matter for the council to decide the level of monitoring required.
