Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Promotion Unit Funding.

Michael Creed

Question:

533 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health the total budget for the health promotion unit within his Department for the past five years; and the amount of money which they received from national lottery funding in each of those years.

The health promotion unit was established within my Department in 1988. The total budget for the unit in the period 1988 to 1991 is as follows:

Departmental Allocation

National Lottery

EC

Total

1988

750,000

151,000

901,000

1989

725,000

167,000

92,000

984,000

1990

710,000

300,000

58,000

1,068,000

1991

860,000

450,000

69,000*

1,379,000

*Provisional.
My Department's allocation excludes salaries and other overheads incurred in the running of the unit. The increase of approximately 30 per cent in funding this year compared with the 1990 allocation reflects my commitment to health promotion and the development of important support programmes at national and local level.
