Question:38 Mr. Spring asked the Taoiseach if he will make a statement in advance of the forthcoming Maastricht Summit, regarding the matters to be discussed there.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 37 and 38 together.
The question of holding an additional meeting of the European Council is still under consideration by the current Dutch EC Presidency and no decision has been taken on this for the time being.
As regards the Maastricht meeting, I do not see any reason to depart from the long established practice of making statements in the House when the conclusions are known and when Deputies are in a much better position to comment on the issues involved.
