The question of the introduction of religious studies as a subject in the leaving certificate programme and as a subject in the leaving certificate examination is under consideration in my Department.
The advice of the Government's legal advisers on the question of the necessary amendment to the Intermediate Education (Ireland) Act, 1878, is awaited.
