Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Kilkenny New School.

Phil Hogan

Question:

596 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education when funds will be provided for a new national school at Clogh, County Kilkenny; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Liam Aylward

Question:

671 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in having the sketch plans returned to the school authorities to enable them apply for planning permission for a new national school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 596 and 671 together.

On 24 June 1991 sketch plans for the proposed new national school in County Kilkenny referred to by the Deputy were sent to the chairman of the board of management to enable him to seek planning permission. Planning permission has not yet been granted as the local authority have sought further details of sewage disposal. The Department's architectural assistant has been in touch with the local authority planner on a number of occasions and it has been agreed that a number of trial bores will be necessary to assess the suitability of the site for sewage disposal etc. It is understood that once the site is considered suitable planning permission will be granted.
The question of allocation of funds for the project does not arise at this stage.

Phil Hogan

Question:

597 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education when funds will be sanctioned for the provision of a new vocational school at Johnstown, County Kilkenny; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Liam Aylward

Question:

673 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education if stage 4 documentation for the proposed vocational school in Johnstown, County Kilkenny has been examined by her Department; and if the planning of this project can now proceed to stage 5.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 597 and 673 together regarding the provision of a new vocational school at Johnstown, County Kilkenny. The planning of this project, plans for which have been revised by the VEC's design team, has now reached Stage IV (Detail Design) and the Department have sought additional information on this stage from the VEC. The question of the allocation of funds for the construction of the school will be considered when the planning process has been completed.
