Written Answers. - Unemployment Figures.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

43 Mr. Deenihan asked the Taoiseach the total unemployment figure for under-25s nationally; the breakdown of this figure between male and females; and if he will outline his proposals to rescue this figure.

Alan Shatter

Question:

44 Mr. Shatter asked the Taoiseach the seasonally adjusted number unemployed as at 30 September 1991; and the steps the Government have taken in the last three months to tackle the unemployment crisis.

On 27 September 1991, the latest date for which figures are available, 258,744 people were registered as unemployed at local offices of the Department of Social Welfare. The seasonally adjusted figure is 263,500. A total of 76,424 of the actual number are under 25 years of age, comprising 44,482 males and 31,942 females.

The Taoiseach, in reply to earlier questions, has outlined the position in relation to reports of the Task Force on Employment established following consultation with the social partners last June.
