Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Bus Pass.

Seán Barrett

Question:

647 Mr. S. Barrett asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that (1) a person (details supplied) in County Dublin has been refused a bus pass for her child who is attending an all-Irish school in Stillorgan on the grounds that the child should attend the new all-Irish school in Bray which is nearer, (2) that the family was unaware that the school in Bray would be opening and had already enrolled the child in the school in Stillorgan and purchased the school uniform and (3) that the father in this family is unemployed; and if she will arrange to have a bus pass issued in this case.

, Under the terms of the school transport scheme transport may be sanctioned only in respect of the nearest appropriate school. The nearest appropriate school in this case is in Bray. However, in the particular circumstances of this individual case, I am pleased to inform the Deputy that I am prepared to allow transport to the school in Stillorgan for the child mentioned by him.
