Vol. 411 No. 2

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Paul Connaughton — the case of an 11 year old girl who has been awaiting confirmation, from Beaumont Hospital of arrangements for further treatment, since last July; (2) Deputy Toddy O'Sullivan — the steps the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications proposes to take to secure a settlement of the industrial relations dispute in An Post before that dispute is escalated; (3) Deputy Bernard Durkan — if the Minister for Education will urgently review the need to provide for extra accommodation and other facilities at a number of post-primary schools in County Kildare; (4) Deputy Pat Rabbitte — the urgent matter of the construction of the Tallaght Regional Hospital; (5) Deputy Eric Byrne — the situation in the Eastern Health Board areas where almost 9,000 people are currently on the waiting list for orthodontic treatment; (6) Deputy Pat McCartan — that the Minister for Justice should request the Government to advise the President to grant a pardon to Nicky Kelly in view of the new evidence and opinion that emerged on a recent RTE television programme. (7) Deputy Roger Garland — the continuing failure of the Minister for Energy to take the appropriate legal action against Britain over Sellafield, despite the legal opinion of an international lawyer, commissioned by Greenpeace, which indicated that we have a viable case; (8) Deputy Patrick J. Sheehan — the serious situation appertaining to the long delays in the payment of farm development grants and cattle and sheep headage grants by the Department of Agriculture and Food; (9) Deputy Paddy Harte — the closure of the Lifford-Strabane road by the British security forces which is causing inconvenience to cross-Border traffic and obstructing the normal commercial business life of that Border region, particularly County Donegal; (10) Deputy Emmet Stagg — the matter of the contamination of the water supply at Sunday's Well, Naas, County Kildare by sewage from the council's main sewer and which gave rise to upwards of 4,000 people becoming ill; (11) Deputy John Browne (Wexford)— the serious escalation of robberies and crime in the Bunclody area of County Wexford and the need to have increased Garda presence in that area to protect peoples' lives and property and also the need to have a full-time sergeant reappointed to Bunclody.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by the following Deputies: (1) Deputy Paddy Harte; (2) Deputy Eric Byrne; (3) Deputy Toddy O'Sullivan.
