Vol. 411 No. 2

Written Answers. - Funding for KARE.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

49 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social Welfare if his attention has been drawn to (a) the financial requirements of KARE in Newbridge, County Kildare, (b) the full extent of facilities currently being provided by the organisation and (c) their development plans for the future; if he expects to be in a position to make further funding available either directly or through the Eastern Health Board to help meet the ongoing financial requirements and in recognition of local voluntary effort; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An application for funding under the scheme of grants to voluntary social service organisations administered by my Department has been received from the organisation in question. In 1989 the voluntary body received a grant of £10,000 towards the purchase of a mini-bus and in 1990 they received a grant of £6,000 towards the cost of fitting out two of their hostels.

The application received under the 1991 scheme of grants for voluntary organisations is still under consideration and as soon as a decision is made the organisation concerned will be notified.
