Vol. 411 No. 2

Written Answers. - Medical Appointment.

Jim Higgins

Question:

62 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health whether the possible waiting time of two years for an ear appointment for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo can be reduced in view of his ongoing problems.

The position in relation to outpatient appointments for patients wishing to see ear, nose and throat specialists is that all ENT cases which are considered urgent are given priority and are seen by the consultant as soon as possible. The Deputy will appreciate that it is a matter for the consultant concerned to determine the priority attached to each case, and to arrange treatment accordingly.

The patient in question is on the routine waiting list for an outpatient appointment. Should he consider that his condition has deteriorated and that an urgent appointment is warranted, he should contact his general practitioner with a view to expediting an appointment with the consultant.
